India had a great opportunity to win a Test series in England after 2007. After all, they were leading the series by 2-1. It is to be noted that the fifth Test was originally meant to be played last September. However, COVID 19 cases in the Indian camp meant that the game had to be either cancelled or rescheduled. At one stage, the game was looking likely to be cancelled.

However, after the discussions between ECB and the Indian Cricket Board, the game was then rescheduled. The visiting team were favourites to win this Test until the England vs New Zealand series happened. In that series, the Three Lions displayed an aggressive brand of cricket like their new head coach Brendon McCullum used to play during his playing days. Not to forget, when he led his national team back in the day, they used to play like this across formats.

Meanwhile, the Three Lions had a change of fortunes and managed to beat the Kiwis by 3-0. This was a remarkable achievement given the kind of year they had from February 2021 to March 2022. The home side chased down 299 in runs in just 50 overs on the last day and chased 296 runs in just four sessions. In both games, Jonny Bairstow played attacking knocks.

Talking about the fifth Test between England and India, it swung in favor of both teams in the last five days. After being 98/4, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja and cameo from Jasprit Bumrah took the team to 416 all-out. This was a remarkable recovery with the bat and then went on to take 83/5 at the end of Day Two. On the third day, Jonny Bairstow was struggling before he and Virat Kohli exchanged a few words. After which, he started to hit boundaries for fun.

The Ben Stokes-led side scored were dismissed for 284. In reply, the Jasprit Bumrah-led side were going on well, with the scorecard reading 153/3, leading by 285 runs. However, Stokes took three wickets after this and bought his team back as they needed to chase 378 runs. They had a great start with 107/0 at one stage. They lost three wickets for the next two runs and looked like the 'Bazball' might fail here. However, the unbeaten partnership of 269 runs between Root and Bairstow took the team over the line.
