'The women version of Dhoni' - Fans recall MS Dhoni's iconic WC moment over Richa Ghosh's famous six against Australian team

Indian Women’s team locked horns with Australia in the second of the five-match T20I series. The match was completely a nail-biting thriller, thanks to the brilliant performances of both teams. The hosts’ skipper Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and decided to field the first DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai.

Batting first, the Aussies posted a good total of 187 runs for the loss of only one wicket in the allotted 20 overs. While chasing the target, a few batters played some brilliant knocks but unfortunately, India couldn’t cross the finishing line and the match ended in a Tie.

But it was the Indian wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh who caught the eyeballs of the Indian cricketing fans and fraternity. Richa ended the match with an impressive six to finish the super over and end things off in favor of India.

The ardent Indian cricket fans took no time in reminding the historic ODI World Cup 2011 six of MS Dhoni that he smashed against Sri Lanka in the final off the pacer Nuwan Kulasekara. The fans immediately took to Twitter to heap praises on the 19-year-old young wicketkeeper-batter Ghosh and compared him with the former legendary World Cup-winning skipper.

Here’s how fans reacted:

Speaking of the match, opener Beth Mooney and Tahlia McGrath played amazing knocks of 82 and 70 runs respectively to help the visitors post a total of 187 runs for the loss of only one wicket. Radha Yadav was the only Indian bowler who scalped a door in the second T20I for the women in blue.

While chasing the target, the opening pair of Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma provided a strong foundation of 76 runs for the first wicket. Player of the match Smriti played an outstanding knock of 79 runs off just 49 balls with nine boundaries and four sixes to her name. Whereas Shafali scored 34 runs off 23 balls with four boundaries and a six on her credit.

But these knocks followed by a quick game of Richa Ghosh with 26 runs couldn’t win the match for India and it ended in a tie.

Heading to the super over, the Australian team posted a target of 17 runs for the Indian team. The women in blue were 14 off five balls and required three off the last ball. Richa Ghosh stunned everyone with her amazing six off Heather Graham to finish things off in style.
