The Board of Control for Cricket in India chairman Sourav Ganguly has spoken on the recent controversy involving the board and Virat Kohli. In a shocking move, BCCI recently stripped Kohli of his ODI leadership and handed over the reins of the team to Rohit Sharma. When asked about the reason for the same, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said he personally requested Virat Kohli to not step down as T20I captain which he didn't agree after which the board decided to give the ODI captaincy to Rohit Sharma as they didn't want split captaincy in white-ball format.

Kohli, who addressed the media before departing for South Africa was asked to comment on the issues, completely contradicted Ganguly's claims and said he can't remember any such discussion between him and BCCI. He also revealed that the board only informed him about his ODI sacking 90 minutes before announcing Rohit as captain.

"Whatever was said about the communication that happened about the decision that was made was inaccurate. I was contacted one-and-a-half hours before the selection meeting on December 8 for the Test series and there was no prior communication to me at all since I announced my decision on T20I captaincy."

"When I left the T20I captaincy, I had first approached BCCI and intimated them of my decision and laid down my point of view in front of them (office bearers). I gave the reasons why I wanted to quit T20 captaincy and my view point was received very nicely. There was no offence, no hesitation and not for once was I told that ‘you should not leave T20 captaincy’," added Kohli.

Two different statements from Ganguly and Kohli left the cricketing world stunned. Meanwhile, Ganguly has now again opened up on the comments made by Virat Kohli. The President denied commenting on the matter and said the issue will be appropriately dealt by the BCCI.

The BCCI president told News18, "I have no comments to make. The BCCI will deal with it appropriately."
