Star Punjab player thanks Mayank Agarwal for backing him

Punjab have been superb in the Indian T20 league 2022 so far. They have won three out of their first five games. The Mayank Agarwal-led side recently beat Mumbai by 12 runs. It was a clinical performance by the 2014-finalists, to say the least.

While the likes of Agarwal and Dhawan were sensational with the bat, it was Odean Smith who was superb with the ball. He took four wickets in the game, and three of them were in the final over. It is safe to say that he redeemed himself after leaking 12 runs in the last two balls during the previous game against Gujarat.

After the completion of the match, he had heaps of praises for his skipper Mayank Agarwal. He thanked the opener for backing him. While mentioning that Agarwal backs him 100%, he also said that the team management has been really motivating.

“They have been very motivating. They have helped me mentally to be able to come into this game and put in the performance today. They have been a major help for me. I would like to thank the coach. Captain Mayank has been amazing. He has always come to me and told me that he is backing me a 100 percent, no matter what happens. It’s just for me to believe that I can do it because I have the belief of the entire team behind me,” said Odean Smith.

In the meanwhile, he also drew light on bowling the final over. He said that Shikhar Dhawan had told him that he will be bowling the 20th over. Further on, he stated that he backed his best balls.

“Shikhar (Dhawan) told me I was probably going to bowl the last over, so I had made my plans – what I was going to do. I asked him a few questions about what the batters would do. So I was clear going out there. I backed my best balls and just went with the plan,” he added.
