The 65th match of the Indian T20 League 2022 saw Hyderabad beat Mumbai by three runs. With this victory, the Kane Williamson-led side continues to remain in the race to the playoffs. After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, Mumbai kept Hyderabad's openers silent for the first few overs. The in-form Abhishek Sharma was dismissed in the third over of the first innings. However, Priyam Garg and Rahul Tripathi then took the aggressive route.

They ensured that the orange army scored 57 runs in the powerplay overs. Tripathi was superb in particular. He once again showed why the pundits and experts rate him so highly. The 31-year-old went on to score 76 runs from just 44 balls.

His knock consisted of nine boundaries and three sixes. As a matter of fact, even after the departure of Garg (42 off 26 balls), Tripathi continued to play his audacious shots alongside Nicholas Pooran. The keeper-batter scored a quickfire 38 from just 22 balls. While his knock came at a strike rate of 172.83, it included two fours and three sixes. However, he was dismissed by Riley Meredith in the 17th over.

Tripathi was quick to follow him as he perished three balls later. Nevertheless, the Hyderabad-based franchise still managed to score 193-6 in their stipulated 20 overs. As for Mumbai, Ramandeep Singh was superb as he picked three wickets in his three overs. After which, Mumbai's openers started the second innings on a positive note.

Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan scored 51 runs in the first six overs. The Mumbai skipper was unlucky to miss out on his half-century as he was dismissed for a 36-ball 48. Ishan Kishan had to then depart five balls later. The in-form Tilak Varma failed to make a mark during the game, as he was dismissed after scoring a nine-ball eight.

Umran Malik was superb as he picked three wickets, while giving 23 runs in his three overs. Despite a sensational 18-ball 46 by Tim David, the five-time champions fell short of their target by three runs. Thus, this is Mumbai's 10th loss in 13 games.
