Team India are currently busy playing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, the Men in Blue are now leading the series 2-0. However, after winning the Delhi Test, the former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir came up with a surprising statement between the captaincy style of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

While talking on a show on Star Sports, Gambhir said that Virat Kohli started the template for team India in Tests. Rohit Sharma is just following that template only. He said: “Honestly, I have always believed that Rohit Sharma is an amazing captain, but there is not much difference between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, especially in this format (Tests). Virat Kohli started this template.”

“The way Virat Kohli managed Ashwin and Jadeja, it is absolutely identical captaincy.” - Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir further added that Kohli has captained the side in the white-ball format exceptionally well. He said: “Virat Kohli has captained exceptionally well whenever he has captained this Test team and Rohit is probably following that template only. Honestly, Rohit has not created his own template. The way Virat Kohli managed Ashwin and Jadeja, it is absolutely identical captaincy.” Hearing such comments, fans were quite surprised as Gambhir is known for criticizing the former India skipper.

Fans have always slammed Gambhir for making brutal comments about Kohli regarding his form and approach to the game. Speaking about Virat Kohli’s Test captaincy, he led team India in 68 Tests. In those matches, the Men in Blue won 40 matches while losing 17 and drawing 11 games. Thus, Kohli is the only Asian captain to have the most wins (40) in Test Cricket. He led team India in 24 Test series where Kohli managed to win 18 series. He has not lost a single series at home. However, Virat Kohli got involved in a controversial dismissal in the first innings of the Delhi Test. Regarding that, Gambhir supported the on-field umpire, Nitin Menon.
