On 19 May 2023, Punjab Kings (PBKS) locked horns with Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the ongoing IPL. The 66th match of the tournament took place in Dharamsala. Before the clash, RR were in sixth place with 12 points in 13 games. While PBKS were in the eighth spot with 12 points in 13 games.

In the reverse fixture, PBKS defeated RR in Guwahati. So, PBKS were looking for a double over RR while RR were looking to avoid a defeat this time around. However, this match was crucial for both teams as a win could let any of them keep alive in the playoff race. Speaking of the match, Sanju Samson won the toss and opted to bowl first.

RR defeated PBKS by four wickets

For PBKS, Prabhsimran Singh came out to open with Shikhar Dhawan. But, Trent Boult struck on his first over as Prabhsimran scored two runs off two balls. Then, Dhawan scored 17 runs off 12 balls and Athrava Taide scored 19 runs off 12 balls. Liam Livingstone also failed cheaply as he scored nine runs off 13 balls. PBKS were struggling at 50 runs for four wickets in 6.3 overs. Then, Sam Curran and Jitesh Sharma put up a partnership of 64 runs for the fifth wicket. Jitesh scored 44 runs off 28 balls while Curran smashed 49* runs off 31 balls. Shahrukh Khan also played a cameo of 41* runs off 23 balls, including four fours and two sixes. Thus, PBKS scored 187 runs for five wickets in 20 overs.

For RR, Navdeep Saini took three wickets while Boult and Adam Zampa grabbed one wicket each. Then for the chase, RR had a terrible start as Jos Buttler registered his fifth duck of the season. After that, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Devdutt Padikkal steadied the ship as RR were 67 runs for one wicket after eight overs. But, Padikkal got out after scoring 51 runs off 30 balls and  Samson also scored two runs off three balls. After that, Jaiswal scored 50 runs off 36 balls. Then, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, and Shimron Hetmyer’s contributions helped RR to chase down the target in 19.4 overs with four wickets in the bag.
