'Shami ne Kardi DC ki Badnaami' - Fans react as Mohammed Shami picks 4 wickets in outstanding opening spell against Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals (DC) are clashing against the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 44th match of the Indian Premier League 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, May 2. A loss might seriously hamper DC’s play-off chances as they have already lost 6 out of 8 matches so far in the season and can’t afford anymore.

Meanwhile, DC skipper David Warner won the toss and opted to bat first but the decision proved wrong as DC’s top order couldn’t handle Mohammed Shami’s pace and bounce as he scalped 4 wickets inside the mandatory powerplay and sent half of the DC’s lineup back to the pavilion. The Capitals are already having a bad season and the performance against GT is also horrible. 

However, it is a beautiful sight for the Indian cricket Team fans as in June, Shami will be in action against Australia in the Test Championship final at The Oval. Shami’s form will be very beneficial for the team and it’d also give more confidence to other pacers like Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav, and Shardul Thakur. Siraj has also performed well in the season so far as in 9 matches, he has already taken 15 wickets and also became one of the top contenders to win the Purple Cap.

Talking about DC's innings, they lost their first wickets on the very first delivery of Shami as Phil Salt played a shot that went straight to a fielder. After this, skipper Warner fell prey to an unfortunate run out in the second over and departed after scoring just 2 runs. On the other hand, Shami continued his brilliance and picked up another wicket in the 3rd over by dismissing Rilee Rossouw.

His next two wickets came in the 5th over where he sent back Manish Pandey and Priyan Garg in the same over. However, lower-order batter Aman Khan steadied the ship by smashing a wonderful fifty and helped the team to achieve a fighting total of 130 runs in 20 overs after losing 8 wickets.
