Bangladesh cricketer, Shakib Al Hasan has been reappointed as the captain of the Bangladesh Test team. The Bangladesh Cricket Board made the decision after Mominul Haque decided to step down from the position in a bid to concentrate on his batting. Liton Das has been appointed as the vice-captain of the team.

Interestingly, Mominul took charge of the Test side in 2019 after Shakib Al Hasan was banned from all playing all formats as he failed to report corrupt charges. Under his leadership of Mominul Haque, Bangladesh won 3 Tests, including the historic Test against New Zealand, and lost 12 matches. A total of 3 matches resulted in draws.

On the other hand, Shakib Al Hasan has led the team twice during his Test cricket career. Under his leadership, the team won 14 matches. He was first appointed as the Test skipper in 2009 when Mashrafe Mortaza was injured in West Indies. His second stint started in 2017 after he replaced Mushfiqur Rahim.

Earlier, a reported had suggested that Bangladesh Cricket Board was planning to repoint Shakib Al Hasan as the Test captain. However, Shakib Al Hasan was yet to accept the role.

"Shakib can be a skipper in any format. But we need to know whether he will play or not (Test cricket regularly). If he says that he won't go or choose a format then it will be a problem. Shakib was our skipper and there is no doubt about his captaincy. But we also need to be sure about his availability," Nazmul told Cricbuzz.

"He cannot make last-minute decisions about his availability when he is the captain. We have to discuss it with him first. We cannot make someone a captain on a whim and so have to take a well-thought-out decision)."

However, the recent report by Cricbuzz suggests that Shakib Al Hasan has been appointed the new captain of the Bangladesh Test team. In his Test cricket career so far, Shakib Al Hasan has played 61 Tests, scoring 4113 runs at an average of 39.2.
