On 21 May 2023, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) took on Gujarat Titans (GT) in the ongoing IPL. It was the 70th clash of the tournament that took place at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. However, it was a must-win game for RCB after MI defeated SRH in their last game.

Hence, MI and their fans were keeping an eye as RCB’s loss could ensure their place in the playoffs. Speaking of the match, Hardik Pandya won the toss and asked RCB to bat first. For RCB, Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis came out to bat. Both these openers gave a blistering start with a partnership of 67 runs for the first wicket.

GT defeated RCB by six wickets

Du Plessis scored 28 runs off 19 balls, including five fours. Then, Maxwell and Lomror failed cheaply as RCB were struggling at 85 runs for three wickets in 9.1 overs. But, it was Kohli again who continued his good form with the bat. He came to this clash after his sixth IPL ton against SRH in Hyderabad. Now, against GT, Kohli smashed his seventh IPL ton and now, he has the most IPL centuries to his name. Kohli remained not out on 101* runs off 61 balls, including 13 fours and one six and RCB scored 197 runs for five wickets in 20 overs. Michael Bracewell scored 26 runs off 16 balls and Anuj Rawat scored 23* runs off 15 balls.

In reply, Wriddhiman Saha went back to the dugout early for 12 runs off 14 balls. But, for the second wicket, Shubman Gill and Vijay Shankar put up a partnership of 123 runs. Shankar scored 53 runs off 35 balls, including seven fours and two sixes. After that, Gill continued his big-hitting abilities and notched up his second century of the season. He remained not out on 104* runs off 52 balls, including five fours and eight sixes. Thus, GT chased down the target in 19.1 overs and RCB got eliminated from IPL 2023. MI also got qualified as the fourth team for the playoffs.
