All eyes were set on Indore when team India took on Australia on 1 March 2023. It was the third match of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The Men in Blue won the first two matches comfortably. So, fans were expecting the same kind of domination from Rohit Sharma and his men in this match also.

While the Aussies were looking for a victory to keep them alive in this series. Meanwhile, Pat Cummins was unavailable as he went back to Australia for personal reasons. Hence, Steve Smith came out for the toss along with Rohit Sharma. Rohit won the toss and opted to bat first. KL Rahul got dropped as Shubman Gill came in. On the other hand, Umesh Yadav replaced Mohammed Shami.

But, Australia spinners were on a roll as they bamboozled team India batters completely. The home side got bundled out for 109 runs in 33.2 overs. Virat Kohli was the highest run-scorer as he scored 22 runs off 52 balls, including three boundaries. Apart from him, only five other batters managed to cross the double-digits. For the Aussies, Matthew Kuhnemann took five wickets for 16 runs in nine overs. Along with him, Nathan Lyon grabbed three wickets and Todd Murphy took one wicket. The Indian batters were clueless against the spinners on a track where the ball was turning and keeping lower than usual bounce.

Then, for Australia, Travis Head and Usman Khawaja came out to open the innings. But, Head departed after scoring only nine runs off six balls. Then, Marnus Labuschagne scored 31 runs off 91 balls while Khawaja scored 60 runs off 147 balls, including four boundaries. In the end, Australia finished day one after scoring 156 runs for four wickets in 54 overs. Ravindra Jadeja took all four wickets for team India. Thus, the Aussies finished the opening day of this match on high with a lead of 47 runs.
