On 11 May 2023, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) locked horns with Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the ongoing IPL. The match took place at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The home team were looking for another win in front of the home crowd. Both teams were tied with 10 points before this clash and therefore, an enthralling battle was waiting for them.

Speaking of the match, Sanju Samson won the toss and asked KKR to bat first. For KKR, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Jason Roy came out to open the innings. But, both the openers failed cheaply. Roy scored 10 runs off eight balls while Gurbaz scored 18 runs off 12 balls, including one four and two sixes. 

RR defeated KKR by 9 wickets

Then, Venkatesh Iyer scored 57 runs off 42 balls, including two fours and four sixes. Along with him, skipper Nitish Rana scored 22 runs off 17 balls, including two fours. Then, other batters came up with some small contributions as KKR scored 149 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs. For RR, Yuzvendra Chahal took four wickets for 27 runs in four overs. Apart from him, Trent Boult took two wickets for 15 runs in three overs. While both KM Asif and Sandeep Sharma grabbed one wicket each.

After this match, Chahal also became the highest wicket-taker in the history of IPL. Then, for the chase, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler came out to open the innings. But, KKR bowlers got smashed all around the park as Jaiswal smashed the fastest fifty in the history of IPL, in just 13 balls. Jos Buttler scored only a three-ball duck before getting run out. Sanju Samson also remained not out on 48* runs off 29 balls, including two fours and five sixes. Jaiswal scored 98* runs off 47 balls, including 12 fours and five sixes. Thus, RR chased down the target with nine wickets and 41 balls to spare. Jaiswal also won the Player of the Match award for his outrageous knock against KKR.
