Ross Taylor gets emotional ahead of final game for New Zealand

The ongoing third ODI between New Zealand and the Netherlands happens to be Ross Taylor's final game for the Blackcaps. It wouldn't be an overstatement to say that the batter has been one of the greatest players to have represented the nation. Taylor made his debut for New Zealand in 2006.

He had earlier announced that the three-match one-day series against the Netherlands would mark his final appearance for New Zealand. Thus, during the third 50-over game on Monday, he got emotional during the national anthem. As soon as it started, he couldn't control his tears.

It is to be noted that Taylor also got his three children, i.e. Mackenzie, Jonty, and Adelaide out with him for the national anthem. As the 38-year-old got emotional, he was consoled by his teammate Martin Guptill, who was standing right beside him. The video of Taylor in tears instantly went viral.

Several people shared this emotional moment on social media. When it comes to Taylor's final knock for the Kiwis, he scored 14 runs off 16 balls before being dismissed for the last time in international cricket. He received a standing ovation from the crowd. All the spectators took out their phones to record this iconic moment.

Taylor shed a few tears while walking back to the pavilion as well. Even his mother got emotional. His wife Victoria, as well as his extended family, were present as well. It is safe to say that the middle-order batter will go down in the history books as one of New Zealand's greatest batters of all time.

He has scored 7684 Test runs, 8602 ODI runs and 1909 runs in T20Is. In the process, Taylor has also scored 40 centuries in international cricket. As far as the game is concerned, then the Tom Latham-led side got to 333-8 in the first innings. They would be hoping to win this game, and give Taylor a fitting farewell.
