‘Rishabh Pant ki yaad aa rahi hai’ - Fans slam KS Bharat for dropping easy catch and conceding byes vs Australia in 4th BGT Test

On 9 March 2023, India took on Australia in the fourth match of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Reports were that Ishan Kishan could replace Srikar Bharat in Ahmedabad. But, Rohit Sharma at the toss confirmed that they made only one change as Mohammed Shami came in place of Mohammed Siraj.

But, Srikar Bharat had a forgettable first session in the match as he made some howlers while keeping the wickets. Bharat missed an easy catch of Travis Head as Umesh Yadav produced an edge. Then, he was seen considering byes as the Indian wicket-keeper failed to catch balls and free runs were gifted to the Aussies. Seeing such a performance, fans were not happy and shared their views on social media.

Before this match, Rohit Sharma said that KS Bharat will be supported despite having an option like Kishan. During the pre-match press conference, he said: “Speaking about (KS) Bharat, he has spent a lot of time in domestic cricket, Ranji Trophy, India A, zonals and he has scored a lot of runs. So, it will be slightly unfair to judge him on these kinds of wickets. Especially if someone is making their debut, you have got to give him enough room or innings for him to set himself up for a big score. That is important.”

“It’s something I spoke to him before the start of the series as well. ‘Do not worry about what kind of pitches we will play, you will get enough time to prove yourself because these pitches are not easy’. If you want to play on pitches like that, you have got to be ready for guys failing in some of the innings as well. Then, you have got to back those guys, that’s what we are doing with KS. KS, like I said, he’s got lots of runs. Lots of experience in domestic cricket, good keeper,” Rohit further added. Although, the Indian skipper said that Rishabh Pant has been a big miss for them as he is still recovering from the severe road accident he faced in December 2022.
