Ricky Ponting gives an update on David Warner and Anrich Nortje's availability in the Indian T20 League 2022

Delhi have had a topsy-turvy start so far in the Indian T20 league 2022. While they produced a remarkable comeback to beat Mumbai in their opening game, they lost to Gujarat in their next game as they failed to chase a 172-run target. Having said that, Delhi have been playing without a few of their key players.

The likes of David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Lungi Ngidi and Anrich Nortje haven't been available for them due to various reasons. Although the Australian opener wasn't a part of the ODI series against Pakistan, Cricket Australia’s contracted players can only feature in the Indian T20 league 2022 after April 6. As for Nortje, he was recovering from his injury. Besides, he hasn't played any competitive cricket since November 2021.

In what comes as big news for all the fans of the franchise, Delhi's coach Ricky Ponting has confirmed that the Proteas pacer, as well as Warner, will be available for their next game. Delhi are set to face Lucknow on April 7. Ponting revealed that the Aussie batter has reached Mumbai and will be done with his quarantine by then. He also drew light on Mitchell Marsh's availability, who recently suffered an injury as well.

“Nortje bowled 100% this morning in the warm-ups. I think he has to get through another maybe four or five-over spell at 100% capacity and then I think if he gets clearance from Cricket South Africa, he should be right to go. We have got a few more days before our next game , so hopefully, he is available for selection for that one.

I think David Warner has arrived in Mumbai. He left early yesterday morning I believe, so he should be there when we get back to Mumbai tonight. Mitchell Marsh has been in Mumbai for a few days, obviously getting his quarantine done. I think he might be out of quarantine tomorrow actually,” said Ricky Ponting, as quoted by CricTracker.

Warner and Marsh were initially with Hyderabad, and were released by the 2016-champions ahead of the mega auction. The duo are expected to play a big role in Delhi's campaign for this edition. As for Nortje, then he has been one of Delhi's best players since 2020. The speedster has single-handedly won several games for them in the last two editions.
