Players who earned a promotion in BCCI's central contract

The apex council of the Board of Control for Cricket in India ratified their central contracts list for 2022.

The apex council of the Board of Control for Cricket in India ratified their central contracts list for 2022. The list of players came out on March 2, 2022. The BCCI has four categories of the central contract with separate values of remuneration amount. Players who are in Grade A+ get INR 7 crores. Players in Grade A, Grade B, and Grade C get INR 5, 3 and 1 crore respectively.

In the recent central contract list Indian Skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah retained their A+ status. While several senior players like Hardik Pandya, Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara lost their Grade A status. While several players have been downgraded or removed from the contract, here is a list of those who earned a promotion.

Shreyas Iyer: Shreyas Iyer recently saw a rise in his T20I rankings. With a brilliant performance in the series against Sri Lanka, Shreyas reserved the number 18 spot for himself in the rankings. His remarkable form has not been limited to a particular format. He also scored a century against New Zealand in his debut game recently.

Iyer is a technically gifted player who plays a counter-attacking brand of cricket. In 62 limited-overs games for India, Iyer has scored 1,756 runs. He received the man of the series for his extraordinary batting display against Sri Lanka in the recently concluded T20 series.

His recent remarkable performances earned him a promotion from Grade C to Grade B in the recent BCCI central contract list.

 Axar Patel: Axar Patel made his international debut for India against Bangladesh. He has been part of the ODI setup for India for nearly 4 years. In the 38 matches he has played for India, Axar has picked up 45 wickets at an economy rate of 4.43 and has also scored 138 runs with the bat in hand.

He made his Test debut for India against England in Chennai. His bowling record has been excellent in the longest format with 36 wickets at an average of just 11.86. With the bat in hand, he has scored 179 which also include a half-century. Axar Patel with his performance has seen a promotion from Grade C to Grade B in BCCI central contract.

 Mohammad Siraj: Mohammad Siraj made his international debut for India in 2017. Though not a regular in the beginning, Siraj showed remarkable improvement and became a key factor in India’s series win Australia in 2020-21. Siraj has represented India in 9 limited-overs games, picking up 10 wickets. In tests, Siraj has 36 wickets in 12 games at an average of 29.64.

Besides his performance, it’s the remarkable approach towards the game and never say die attitude of his that has earned him acclamations lately. Siraj was promoted from Grade C to Grade B in the BCCI central contracts list.

4. Shardul Thakur: Shardul Thakur made his debut for India in the ODIs in 2017 against Sri Lanka. Since then, his career has only taken an upward climb. Shardul Thakur in a test career of 7 matches has scored 249 runs with three very brilliant and important half-centuries. He also has 26 wickets at an average of 21.03. In ODIs, he has scored 205 runs with one half-century, with an average of 34.16 and a strike rate of 120.58. In ODIs, he has picked up 25 wickets at an average of 40.16. In 25 T20Is, he has picked up 33 wickets at an average of 23.39 and has scored 69 runs at a strike rate of 181.57.

Shardul Thakur has earned his fame recently after he displayed uncanny nature of picking up crucial wickets and scoring crucial runs at crunch situations for his team. His remarkable presence recently in the field of cricket earned him a promotion from  Grade C to Grade B in the central contract list of BCCI.
