Pakistan scored 476 runs for the loss of 4 wickets while playing out 162 overs in the first innings. Huge centuries came from the bat of opener Imam-ul-Haq (157 runs from 358 deliveries) and Azhar Ali (185 runs of 361 deliveries).

Australia coming out to bat in the first innings batted out 140 overs, scoring 459 runs. The Australian innings was decorated by brilliant knocks from Usman Khawaja (97), David Warner (68), Marnus Labuschagne (90), and Steven Smith (78).

The first inning of the two teams saw out four days of the match, in which only 14 wickets fell. Reacting to the dead wicket, former Indian opening batsman Wasim Jaffer expressed his concern.

The opener is of the opinion that batting pitches like the one in Rawalpindi are ultimately killing the essence of cricket. His tweet read – “I find it amusing when Test matches get over inside 4 days yet teams lose WTC points for overrate. The biggest threat to test cricket is not overrate. Tests rarely go to day 5 anyway nowadays. The biggest threat to test cricket are dead pitches. Dead pitch = Dead game. #PAKvAUS”.

Wasim Jaffer played 31 test matches for India in 31 Tests. He scored 1944 runs in those tests at an average of 34.1 with 5 centuries.
