The Gujarat franchise took on Chennai in the opening game of the Indian T20 League 2023. However, all eyes were on the playing XI of Gujarat to see whether Kane Williamson gets a chance or not. The franchise bought him for INR 2 Crores. Hence, fans were expecting a big role for the Kiwi batter in the lineup.
Meanwhile, Pandya confirmed that Williamson managed to get a place in the lineup. But, he sustained an injury during that game and failed to come out for batting during the chase. Now, according to the reports of Sports Tak, Kane Williamson is most likely to get ruled out of the whole edition of the competition.
Kane Williamson suffered a nasty injury on his right knee
Speaking of the incident, it took place during the 13th over of Chennai’s innings. Josh Little was bowling while Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ambati Rayudu were batting. On the third delivery of that over, Gaikwad hit a shortish ball over square leg and Kane Williamson tried to stop it.
The Kiwi jumped but landed awkwardly on his right knee. After that, he looked in full discomfort and left the field immediately. However, he did not return to batting also during the chase.
Gujarat used the ‘Impact player’ rule to replace him with Sai Sudharsan at the number three position. Speaking of Kane Williamson, he had a forgettable debut for the Gujarat franchise. He also shared his joy after Gujarat signed him for this edition of the tournament. In a video, he was seen saying: “Kem chho Gujarat? (How are you Gujarat) Kane Williamson here. Feels great to join the family at the Gujarat Titans. Looking forward to the up and coming season. Aava De." Hearing such reports, fans went crazy and shared their views on the social media platform. Some fans also claimed that the injury might have backfired on the franchise in the course of the whale season.
