Terrific start for Pacific Stars on day 1 of Olympia D20 2023

On 12 May 2023, the new T20 League named ‘Olympia D20’ started in Greece. All four teams were in action on day one. However, both Pacific Stars and USC Blasters played two games while both Toyam Warriors and DGTX Strikers played one game each.

Here is the result of three matches on day one of the Olympia D20 tournament:

Match 1: Pacific Stars vs Toyam Warriors

Pacific Stars won the toss and opted to bowl first. Due to rain, the match got reduced to 13 overs and Toyam Warriors scored 85 runs for seven wickets. After the DLS method, the revised target was 73 runs in 13 overs. But, the Stars got awarded 15 bonus runs before the start of the innings. In reply, the Stars chased down the target in 9.2 overs and won the match by 13 wickets. Stars’ Qasar Amin won the Player of the Match award for taking three wickets for six runs in three overs.    

Match 2: USC Blasters vs DGTX Strikers

DGTX Strikers won the toss and opted to bowl first. In 20 overs, USC Blasters scored 139 runs for seven wickets. Then, as a penalty, 18 more runs got added and the revised target became 158 runs. But, in reply, the Strikers scored only 141 runs for six wickets in 20 overs and the Blasters won the match by 16 runs. Blasters’ Amir Sohil won the Player of the Match award for scoring seven runs and taking two wickets for 29 runs in four overs.     

Match 3: Pacific Stars vs USC Blasters 

In this clash, both teams came after winning their respective tournament openers. Pacific Stars won the toss and asked USC Blasters to bat first. The Blasters scored 131 runs for seven wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Pacific Stars chased down the target in 16.4 overs and won the match by seven wickets. Stars’ Abdullah Ahmad won the Player of the Match award for taking one wicket for 29 runs in three overs and scoring 43* runs off 44 balls, including two fours.
