The first ODI between India and West Indies is all set to be a historic game, as it's the Asian side's 1000th one-day game. 48 years after playing two ODIs against England in 1974, they will be playing their 1000th 50-over game on Sunday.

Among them, India have won 518 games. It is to be noted that Sachin Tendulkar has featured in 463 ODIs for India. As a matter of fact, the "Master Blaster" was a part of India's 200th, 300th, 400th, 500th, 600th, 700th and 800th ODI games. Thus, he recently went on to speak about the future of the format.

Tendulkar was of the opinion that the current generation hasn't seen the best of one-day cricket. While speaking to Malayala Manorama, the legend said that the bowlers use to have a bigger role in the early days. He also spoke about several elements which have changed.

"There needs to be more balance (between bat and ball) in one-day cricket. Earlier, all the elements were there to keep it interesting. The bowler had a bigger role—the ball did more with early starts; reverse swing also came into play and with discolouration, it was also difficult to pick off the pitch. I don’t think it is losing its relevance but you have tinkered with all these elements which were already there to keep it interesting," said Sachin Tendulkar.

"Whoever is in charge - the cricket committee or ICC—decided to change all these elements. The audience has an appetite for one-day cricket. But, with every generation, there are a number of kids who have never experienced the thrill of it," he added.

Tendulkar then spoke about India playing its 1000th one-dayer in Ahmedabad. He mentioned the fact that the journey towards the milestone has been long. He also said that he was looking forward to the game.

"It has been a long journey to get to this milestone. Past and present cricketers, board members, officials, fans… everyone has contributed to its growth. I look forward to watching the game," he said.
