As expected, when Iyer's name came up during the mega auction, several teams went after him. Setting his base price at INR 2 crore, Bangalore were the first team bid for him. However, it was Kolkata who managed to finally buy him. They acquired his services for a whopping amount of INR 12.5 crore.

Buying him wasn't really easy as a lot of teams tried their luck, and started bidding for him. Post Bangalore, even Delhi swayed out at 9.75 Crores while Gujarat entered at 10 Crores. Yet, Kolkata continued their pursuit, and finally succeeded in getting him.

It is to be noted that the Kolkata-based franchise were looking for a captain as well. Now that they have acquired the services of Iyer, it is safe to assume that the Mumbai batter will now lead the two-time champions. Under his leadership, Delhi went on to reach the final during the 2020 edition.

Thus, Twitter flooded with several Tweets about the same. People felt that Kolkata did a good job in buying Iyer. Many users even felt that he could be the solution to all their problems. Besides, he recently won the player of the match award for his 80 against West Indies during the third ODI. Thus, the Kolkata fans would be very happy with this buy.
