'Maxi was in tears' - Aaron Finch reveals reaction of teammates after his decision to retire from ODIs

In a big piece of news, Australian skipper Aaron Finch has hanged his boots from One-Day internationals. The 35-year-old has also cleared that he will continue captaincy in the T20 internationals. He announced his retirement during a recent press conference where he addressed the journalists. Now, speculations have also started that who will take over the skipper of the team on the 50-over format.

Talking about his decision to retire from ODIs, Finch also talked about the reaction of teammates when they came to know about this. He also happened to mention the emotional attachment with senior all-rounder Glenn Maxwell who rolled down into tears when he came to know about Finch’s retirement.

"It has been a fantastic ride with some incredible memories, Maxi was in tears, and there were quite interesting reactions from mates, I have been extremely fortunate to be a part of some brilliant one-day sides. Equally, I have been blessed by all those I have played with and the many people behind the scenes,” said Finch while talking about his decision and the reaction of his teammates.

Later on, he also talked about the new captain after him and preparations for the next ODI world cup in 2023.

“It is time now to give a new leader the best possible opportunity to prepare for and win the next World Cup. I thank all of those who have helped and supported my journey to this point,” he added later

“I could have tried to play the series against England, and that would have been a bit of a fairytale finishing at the MCG, but I think that's never been my style to be self-indulgent in any way," he said. "So, it's important that whoever takes over the captaincy, and whoever opens the batting, is given the best opportunity to take take the team forward and win the World Cup in 2023. I'm very comfortable and confident I would never have made it that far, just with my body and a bit of form,” he concluded.
