Marlon Samuels charged under ICC Anti-Corruption Code

Former West Indies batter Marlon Samuels has been charged by the International Cricket Council for breaching four counts of the  ECB Anti-Corruption Code for participants of the T10 League.

Samuels has been charged of  breaching Article 2.4.2 – Failing to disclose to the Designated Anti-Corruption Official, the receipt of any gift, payment, hospitality or other benefit that was made or given in circumstances that could bring the Participant or the sport of cricket into disrepute.

A breach of Article 2.4.3 - Failing to disclose to the Designated Anti-Corruption Official receipt of hospitality with a value of US $750 or more.

Breaches of Article 2.4.6 – Failing to cooperate with the Designated Anti-Corruption Official’s investigation.

Breaches of Article 2.4.7 – Obstructing or delaying the Designated Anti-Corruption Official’s investigation by concealing information that may have been relevant to the investigation.

Samuels has 14 days from 21 September to respond to the charges. Till then, ICC will not comment on the issue.

Samuels played 71 Tests, 207 ODIs and 67 T20Is for West Indies during his international career and accumulated a total of 11,134 runs and also took 152 wickets. Samuels won the T20 World Cup twice with the West Indies and top scored for his team in both finals. He was one of the most controversial cricketer from the country. He was suspended from bowling three time by ICC due to illegal action, with his first offence in 2008 earning him a two-year ban.

The 2021 season T10 league was played earlier this year in Abu Dhabi. The West Indian all-rounder last played in the 2019 edition, for Karnataka Tuskers, under former South Africa batter Hashim Amla.
