The Indian team had a horrific outing in the recently concluded 20-20 World Cup 2022. The Indian cricketing corridors witnessed turbulence following an embarrassing defeat of 10 wickets against England in the second semi-final of the marquee tournament in Australia. Subsequently, the Indian cricket Board sacked the Chetan Sharma-led selection committee and it opened the doors for a new selection committee.

Recently, sources close to the Indian cricket Board have learned that the former Indian pacer Venkatesh Prasad might take over as the new chairman of the new selection committee. According to reports, he might represent the South Zone in the selection committee.

“The Board will finalize and announce the new selection committee before the end of this month. Venkatesh Prasad is one of the most experienced cricketers who has applied for the role. No formal discussions have happened but he is likely to get a vote of confidence from all as new chairman,” said the source to the media.

Speaking of Prasad’s contribution to the Indian team, he appeared in 33 Tests and 161 ODIs at the highest level of the game. In these matches, The Karnataka pacer scalped 290 international wickets to his name.

Talking about other additions to the selection committee, Salil Ankola might represent West Zone depending on support for him from Mumba Cricket’s renowned name Ashish Shelar. SS Das is reported to join the selection committee as a representative of East Zone. Whereas, there are three names popping up from the North Zone including the likes of Maninder Singh, Atul Wasan, and Nikhil Chopra.

Apart from these names, Nayan Mongia might be a guy on the selection committee from the Central Zone.

“We have the CAC in place. We are shortlisting candidates for the selection committee at the moment and should have the names by next week. The CAC will conduct the interviews and finalize the list,” an Indian Cricket Board official was quoted as saying to InsideSport.
