Lanka Premier League invites Charu Sharma for their Player Auction for upcoming season

Charu Sharma, India's renowned commentator and quizmaster, will be an auctioneer for the Lanka Premier League next week.

The Lanka Premier League (LPL) is all set for its inaugural player auction for season four of the tournament. Before this, the competition followed the draft system for the first three editions. The player auction will be held on the 14th of June 2023.

Charu Sharma, India's renowned commentator and quizmaster, will be an auctioneer for the Lanka Premier League next week. Samantha Dodanwela, Tournament Director, revealed this.

"We have invited Charu Sharma for this auction. He will also be assisted by a few local commentators", Dodanwela said as quoted by Daily Mirror.

"Charu Sharma is not a new name for the LPL. He conducted the players' draft in the past and now his expertise will be used for the live auction", he added.

"About 500 cricketers have shown interest to play the LPL this season. We hope to conduct the auction for about 300 odd players including 140 foreign players," he continued.

Charu Sharma served as the emergency auctioneer for the 2022 Indian Premier League when the original auctioneer, Hugh Edmeades, fainted due to postural hypotension. The auction began after lunch on the first day and continued until the closing session on the second day when Edmeades returned to use his hammer.

Charu Sharma is well-known for his television presentations (particularly on cricket and kabaddi). He is also well-known as a quizmaster on television. He also hosts award ceremonies and business events.

LPL 2023 begins on 30th July

The League's fourth edition will take place from July 30 to August 20, 2023. The event will include five franchise teams. Each franchise team will bring US$ 500,000 to the auction in order to bid on players, for a total of US$ 2.5 million.

In the meantime, Babar Azam will join Pakistan colleague Naseem Shah in playing for the Colombo Strikers. This will be Babar's debut appearance in the franchise competition. He will look forward to a good season to help the Strikers win their first-ever title.
