India is slated to host the ODI World Cup in 2023, with the anticipated dates being 5 October–19 November. The competition will be held wholly in India for the first time; three earlier editions—1987, 1996, and 2011—were only partially held here. The current champions are England, who won the previous competition in 2019 by defeating New Zealand in the final game.

Ten teams will compete in the tournament, just like in the previous edition. The Cricket World Cup Super League competition will be the primary means of qualification from 2020 to 2023. Meanwhile, following the cancellation of the opening ODI match between Ireland and Bangladesh on May 9, South Africa has now formally qualified for the ODI World Cup in India. To tie South Africa, Ireland needed to win all three of their one-day international matches.

As the eighth and last side to directly qualify for the World Cup, South Africa will now determine the final two teams in the qualifiers that will be contested in Zimbabwe. The Proteas earned 98 points after winning 9 matches from 21 games since the 2019 World Cup. Ireland, on the other hand, is now in 11th place with 73 points and would only achieve 93 points if they win the next two ODIs against Bangladesh.

Who will be the other two teams?

Two other notable teams, West Indies and Sri Lanka, will also need to compete in the qualifying rounds in order to qualify for the World Cup in India, which is set to take place in October-November. New Zealand, England, India, Bangladesh, Australia, Pakistan, and Afghanistan are the other teams who have already qualified for the major event.

The qualifications will take place between Zimbabwe (the hosts), the Netherlands, Scotland, Oman, Nepal, Sri Lanka, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, the West Indies, and Ireland. Out of these, only two teams will be eligible for the World Cup in India. However, the favourites are India as they will have the home advantage but some important players will be missing the tournament due to injuries which will surely affect their gameplay.
