Gone were the times in cricket when a player of the match award was considered to be a big achievement for a cricketer. But since cricket has gained popularity, it has also increased the competition amongst the brands to be on top of the screen whenever the teams are in action.

Speaking specifically of the Indian team, then India is considered the biggest market for cricket in the world. All the sponsors try not to miss any chance to be on the banners whenever the men in blue are in action during either of the tournaments.

These rat races among sponsors have also increased the number of irrelevant awards which are being given to the players.

A similar has happened in the recently-concluded three-match T20I series between India and England where former Indian skipper and senior batter Virat Kohli was awarded the ‘energetic player of the series’ award’. This award didn’t seem a bit relevant to Indian cricket fans.

A fan took no time in making fun of Kohli’s desperate attempt to justify this unnecessary award. He posted the video with a unique caption. It all started among the fans when Virat Kohli ran back away to the team in an animated manner after collecting the award. He could’ve walked normally but it was just an effort to justify the relevancy of the award.

Here's what actually happened and how fans reacted:

Speaking of Kohli’s performance in the series, then he couldn’t impress anyone with his performances in the first two of the three-match T20I series. Although, his match-defining knock of 63 runs in the last match proved very crucial for team India to win the series decider by six wickets and seal the series with a margin of 2-1.

Now, the 33-year-old will be seen in action during the upcoming three-match T20I series against South Africa ahead of the 20-20 World Cup 2022.
