The eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is going on successfully in Pakistan. But, the overall security regarding the tournament has been a concern for the tournament. The Punjab government demanded a hefty amount from the Pakistan Cricket Board to host PSL matches in Lahore and Rawalpindi.

As of now, all matches will be organized as per plan until 27 February 2023. After that, all matches might get shifted to Karachi from Lahore and Rawalpindi. Speaking of the security of PSL, the Punjab government asked for Rs450 million from the PCB for making security arrangements in Lahore and Rawalpindi for the matches.

Pakistan Super League might get moved to the United States or UAE – Reports

After a recent meeting with Board delegates, it seemed that Najam Sethi has refused to pay such an amount. While speaking to Dawn, a source close to the whole matter said: “The owners refused to pay a penny more than the amount of Rs50 million that has already been paid to the Punjab government for providing food to the security officials during the matches in Lahore and Rawalpindi.”

“That message was conveyed to the government delegation, which did not show any relaxation in its demand. The PCB is wary that once such a huge amount is paid for PSL matches, it would set a precedent for the future and the government would ask for it in every international series,” the source concluded. However, in contrast to the Punjab government, the Sindh government asked for Rs30 million for matches in Karachi.

A source said: “The PCB has never paid such a huge security expense even when organising the PSL in the United Arab Emirates. The PCB has the stance that since the PSL is a national brand, serving a huge national purpose, therefore the government should come out with open heart for it.” Now, reports have come out that PSL franchises have suggested PCB for shifting the tournament to UAE or the United States if the Punjab Government do not step back from the demand for security expenses.
