In a major blow for the Indian camp, one of the key pacers Deepak Chahar has reportedly been excluded from the ongoing three-match ODI series against South Africa as he has sustained an injury. A PTI report has learned that Chahar’s ankle got injured during training time just ahead of the first match of the series in Lucknow on Thursday.

Subsequently, he was not included in the Indian playing XI for the series opener. On the other hand, some reports have also understood that it’s a stiff back, not a twist in the ankle that ruled him out of the rest of the ODI series against South Africa.

Earlier, Deepak Chahar had to sit outside for a period of almost six months due to injury concerns. He made his comeback to international cricket when India toured Zimbabwe for an ODI series in the month of August. Although, the ghost of injury is still haunting Chahar and he might miss a few games again.

Speaking of the concerns for team India, then this injury update didn’t go down well with the Indian cricket fans. They did not delay in lashing out at the pacer for being so vulnerable to injury.

The Agra-based pacer was also included in the list of standbys played in the squad of men in blue for the 20-20 World Cup 2022. There were also talks that he could replace Jasprit Bumrah who was ruled out of the tournament due to a back injury.

It is also a major concern for India if Chahar will recover from the injury he sustained before the marquee tournament. Rohit Sharma’s men will be there in Australia in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

Deepak has shown his brilliance in bowling in his comeback series as he scalped five wickets in the two ODIs he played against Zimbabwe. He couldn’t get a chance to play for India in the three-match T20I series against Australia.
