Kandy Falcons have acquired the services of Sri Lanka's opening batter Pathum Nissanka ahead of the Lanka Premier League 2022. The team already has star players such as Wanindu Hasaranga and Chamika Karunaratne from the national setup. Nissanka, who made his debut in the 20-20 World Cup last year, is currently the eighth-ranked T20I batter. He is the only Lankan player to feature in the top 10.

The right-hander recently made his name after scoring his maiden hundred against a strong Australia side. Currently, he is down due to COVID-19 and didn't further part in the second Test against the Kangaroos. Meanwhile, team owner Parvez Khan said that Pathum's addition to the team will not only strengthen the team but also be a huge asset. Khan believes that the fans of the team will be happy to see him in the team.
“Pathum’s inclusion will not only strengthen our batting but his recent experience playing in the Sri Lanka T20 team will be a huge asset to the team. I am sure the fans will be happy to see him in action for Kandy Falcons in the LPL,” Kandy franchisee owner Parvez Khan said to Newswire.
Talking about the squad, the team will be led by the West Indies all-rounder Braithwaite. The team have signed players such as Fabian Allen, Dewald Brewis, and Matheesha Pathirana, who played in the Indian T20 League 2022. Discarded Pakistan player Usman Shinwari and West Indies opening batter Andre Fletcher will also play for the team.
Ashan Priyanjan, who played for the Lankans alongside legends such as Lasith Malinga, Kumar Sangakkara, and Mahela Jayawardene, will also play for the team. The tournament will kick start on July 31.
