The 34-year-old has completed his second century for the calendar year of 2023. The modern-day batting great has also broken the record of former legendary Indian batting in having the most ODI centuries on home soil.

Speaking of the match so far, the men in blue are batting first after winning the toss and decided to bat first at the turf of the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. The opening pair of skipper Rohit Sharma and young batter Shubman Gill provided a strong start for the team by scoring 95 runs for the first wicket. The 23-year-old young batter Shubman Gill played a brilliant century-knock of 116 runs off 97 balls with 14 boundaries and two sixes to his name.

Following this century from Gill, the veteran Indian batter Virat Kohli smashed his career’s 46th ODI century.

At the time of filling this copy, Virat Kohli finished his individual innings unbeaten on the score of 166 runs with 13 boundaries and eight sixes at the end of 50 overs. On the back of Kohli and Gill's amazing centuries, India posted a total of 390 runs for the loss of five wickets in the allotted 50 overs. Now, the visitors require 391 runs off 50 overs in the second innings to end on a winning note in the series.

Kasun Rajitha and Lahiru Kumara scalped two wickets each alongside one wicket claimed by Chamika Karunaratne.
