'Jali nah? Teri jali nah?' - Fans laugh on Rajasthan as Chennai end up winning the bidding war for Ben Stokes

Star England all-rounder and Test skipper Ben Stokes were one of the major headlines before the mini-auction for the next edition of the Indian T20 League. He played a crucial role in Englandโ€™s victory in the 20-20 World Cup 2022 with a match-defining knock against Pakistan in the final of the marquee tournament in Australia.

The 31-year-old Canterbury-based all-rounder had a base price of INR 20 crores for the mini-auction. A starting battle for Stokes was started between two big franchises Rajasthan and Bangalore. But both the teams pulled back from the bidding war as the price for Stokes crossed the mark of INR 10 crores.

It was also the time when three-time Indian T20 League champions Chennai entered the contention and ended up buying Stokes for a handsome amount of INR 16.25 crores. Subsequently, Rajasthan happened to tweet including the pictures of senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and former Aussie all-rounder Shane Watson alongside an image of Stokes.

Rajasthan tried to indicate that Chennai always bought the all-rounders who groomed during their days of the Indian T20 League while playing for Rajasthan. Following this tweet from Rajasthan, the fans came up with some funny tweets while mocking Rajasthan on Twitter.

Hereโ€™s how fans reacted:

Notably, Rajasthan was the champions of the inaugural edition of the Indian T20 League played 14 years back in the year 2008. It was the time when star Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja played for the Shane Warne-led blue outfits. Alongside Jadeja, former veteran all-rounder Shane Watson was also a crucial part of Rajasthan in the first edition of the tournament.

But later on, the three-time champions Chennai roped in both the all-rounders to their squad. A similar happened recently during the mini-auction for the 16th edition of the cash-rich Indian T20 tournament.

Interestingly, it will be happening for the second time in the Indian T20 League when Ben Stokes will be appearing in the tournament under the captaincy of former legendary Indian skipper MS Dhoni. Earlier, he played under the captaincy of two-time World Cup winner skipper Dhoni for the Pune-based franchise.
