On 14 May 2023, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) registered a thumping 112-run victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Jaipur in the ongoing IPL. After this win, RCB are now in the fifth position with 12 points in 12 games, with a net run rate of +0.166. Still, they have two matches left in the group stage.

In the next clash, they will face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Hyderabad on 18 May. Then, in Bengaluru, they will face Gujarat Titans (GT) on 21 May. So, after this thrashing win against RR, RCB fans are wondering what their team need to do in these upcoming clashes to seal a spot in the playoffs.

RCB’s qualification scenario for playoffs

In the last three IPL seasons, RCB managed a spot in the top four. However, after the RR win and with a healthy net run rate so far, another top-four finish is expected from the team. For that, RCB need to win both clashes first. Thus, RCB can reach 16 points. But, along with that, they need to pray for some results to go in their favour as well.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) are another team who currently have 12 points in 12 games. Thus, they can also reach 16 points with two wins in their last two games (vs Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals). So, RCB will hope that PBKS lost any of those clashes. Apart from that, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are another team that can reach 17 points after 14 games.

Currently, they have 13 points in 12 games with two more matches against Mumbai Indians (MI), and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) respectively. So, RCB will pray for a loss in any one of those games for LSG as they can maximum reach 15 points.

Top 2 finish loading for RCB?

Currently, Gujarat Titans (GT) are in the top spot with 16 points in 12 games with a run rate of +0.761. In the second position, CSK have 15 points in 13 points with a run rate of +0.381. So, if both these teams lose their remaining matches and RCB manage to win their remaining matches by big margins, Faf du Plessis and his men can manage a top-two finish.
