Round 1 of the Indian T20 League mega auction saw the franchises bidding for the 10 marquee players. The first player that was bid for was Shikhar Dhawan, who was sold for 8.25 crore to Punjab. Rajasthan and Delhi also showed interest in him.
The second player to go under the hammer was R Ashwin who went to Rajasthan for 5 crores. There was a stiff fight for him between Delhi and Rajasthan but Delhi backed out later. Kolkata then bagged a steal deal as they brought Pat Cummins for 7.25 crores. The two new teams, Lucknow and Gujarat also bid for him but Kolkata was determined to get him on board. South Africa pacer Kagiso Rabada was sold to Punjab for 9.25 crores. Delhi and Gujarat also bid for him but to no avail.
Rajasthan then bagged the services of Trent Boult for 8 crores after a stiff bidding war from Mumbai and Bangalore. Kolkata made another steal deal when they roped in Shreyas Iyer for 12.25 crores. Iyer will also serve as the skipper for the franchise. Mohammed Shami was sold to Gujarat for 6.25 crores, while Faf du Plessis went to Bangalore for 7 crores. Chennai and Delhi were also interested in Faf.
Lucknow made their first purchase and bagged Quinton de Kock for 6.75 crores. Mumbai Chennai and Delhi also bid for the wicket-keeper. The final player to go under the hammer was David Warner, who was sold to Delhi at a mere 6.25 crores.
