The upcoming fifteenth edition of the Indian T20 League (ITL) is all set to feature two new teams, i.e. Lucknow and Ahmedabad. The Lucknow franchise have already started fixing their jigsaw. As a matter of fact, they are going to reveal the name of their franchise real soon too.

The new franchises have been asked to submit their draft picks by January 22. Thus, the RP Sanjiv Goenka group owned franchise need to finalize their signings as soon as possible. Thus, Lucknow were in talks with several players like Ishan Kishan, Rashid Khan, Yuzvendra Chahal and David Warner.
According to a report by Sports Tiger, the franchise are most likely going to sign KL Rahul as their captain and thus, he would be their first pick. However, according to the veteran journalist K Shriniwas Rao, the Uttar Pradesh franchise are in talks with Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Bishnoi as well.

I'm a bit surprised they didn’t push for Chahal or Rashid. But considering Bishnoi is uncapped, it's understandable.
They save money ahead of the auction.
While this might come as a baffling move, it might prove to be a masterstroke. As Ravi Bishnoi is an uncapped player, he might cost the franchise only INR 4 crores, and that will ensure that they have a large sum of money for the ITL 2022 mega auction. The franchise couldn't get Rashid Khan as the Afghan leggie wanted to be the first pick, and Lucknow couldn't do it as they wanted Rahul as their first pick.
As for the Australian all-rounder, the Lucknow franchise would have wanted an all-rounder and Stoinis is a good pick as he has plenty of experience of playing in such leagues. With the way things stand, the franchise looks all set to have one of the largest purses for the auction.
