The Indian T20 League has been one that promotes young talents. In 16 seasons, the league has seen numerous youngsters make their debut in the coveted league. The same been in case in the Indian T20 League 2023. Several debutants have dropped impressive performances in the latest edition of the league in the first two days. Here is a look at the best debut performances in Indian T20 League 2023 so far.
3. Nehal Wadhera, Mumbai
On number three, we have Nehal Wadhera who injected some much needed pace into Mumbai’s innings in their first game of the Indian T20 League 2023 against Bangalore. Alongside Tilak Varma’s dazzling 84 off 46, Wadhera’s quickfire 21 off 13 with two maximums and one boundary was crucial in Mumbai posting a competitive 171/7 in 20 overs. However, both batters’ efforts went in vain as Bangalore openers Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli took the game away from the Mumbaikers with their masterful batting.
2. Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Chennai
Another great performance in the losing cause, Chennai’s Rajvardhan Hangargekar dropped a masterful spell in the Indian T20 League 2023 season opener against defending champions Gujarat. Chennai posted 178/7 in their 20 overs asking Gujarat for a competitive chase. However, the defending champions chased the target down with great intent and Hangargekar remained the brightest spark for Chennai’s bowling. He returned with figures of 3/36 in his four overs and was the pick of the bowlers.
1. Kyle Mayers, Lucknow
On number one, we have Lucknow’s Kyle Mayers. Unlike the first two debutants on this list, Mayers’s sensational 73 off 38 was not in the losing cause. Lucknow kicked off their Indian T20 League 2023 campaign against Dehli at their home ground. Mayers, who opened the batting alongside skipper KL Rahul, scored 73 off just 38 balls, courtesy of 2 boundaries and 7 maximums. They posted 193/6 and ended up winning the game by 50 runs as Delhi could only manage 143/9 within their quota of 20 overs. Mayers's performance deserves the tag of the best debut in season 16 of the Indian T20 League.
