Three-time champions Chennai made it to the headlines as they bought the veteran England all-rounder Ben Stokes for the next edition of the Indian T20 League. The yellow outfits spent a big amount of INR 16.25 crores to have the star England international in their squad. Notably, it would be the second time when Ben Stokes will be playing under the captaincy of former legendary Indian captain MS Dhoni.

Apart from the addition of Ben Stokes, there would be very less chances of any change in the playing XI of MS Dhoni-led Chennai. The 31-year-old would surely help his team maintain a fair equilibrium during a crucial situation in a match, be it bowling or batting.

With said that, here we’ll have a look at the probable best XI of Chennai for the Indian T20 League 2023.

The young Indian batter Ruturaj Gaikwad has produced some brilliant performances in domestic cricket of late. He played some excellent knocks during the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy. Apart from that, the 25-year-old has also delivered some brilliant knocks while playing for Chennai previously.

Gaikwad will get the company of star New Zealand batter Devon Conway who has a handsome record to his name in the T20Is. Appearing in 35 T20Is for the kiwi team, the 31-year-old has scored 1170 runs with an outstanding average of 48.75 including eight half-centuries to his name.

Middle Order – Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, MS Dhoni

Experienced England all-rounder would be a perfect choice for number three for Chennai. He can play an anchor role in the innings. Mooen Ali recently captained the national team of England during the seven-match T20I series against Pakistan in the absence of regular skipper Jos Buttler.

Young Indian southpaw Shivam Dube might join Moeen Ali in the middle order of the team followed by the presence of wicketkeeper-skipper MS Dhoni further. The presence of these players and a mix of experience and young talent will surely strengthen the middle order of MS Dhoni’s men.

All-Rounders – Ben Stokes and Ravindra Jadeja

Speaking of the all-rounders in Chennai’s best XI for the 16th edition of the Indian T20 League, they are studded two of the World’s best all-rounders. The recent expensive buy of INR 16.25 crore and star England international Ben Stokes will be a player to watch for Chennai. The Canterbury-born veteran all-rounder played a brilliant role in winning the run of the three lions during the recently concluded 20-20 World Cup 2022.

Stokes played a match-defining knock in favor of England against Pakistan in the final of the eighth edition of the tournament. The England skipper will get the company of senior Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja in the squad. Although Jadeja is out of international cricket due to an injury in his knee that he sustained while skiing during the Asia Cup 2022.

Bowlers – Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Deepak Chahar, Maheesh Theekshana, and Mukesh Choudhary

The bowling attack of Chennai might consist of a combination of three pacers alongside one spinner. Domestic Indian pacers Rajvardhan Hangargekar and Mukesh Choudhary might make it to the final XI of the team. The 30-year-old Deepak Chahar will also add some experience to the team; however, he is currently recovering from an injury.

Speaking of Mukesh Choudhary, he produced some brilliant performances for Chennai in the 2022 edition of the Indian T20 League. The 26-year-old scalped 16 wickets in 13 appearances with the best performance of 4/46.
