Indian T20 League is one of the most lucrative T20 leagues in the world. All the franchises have submitted their final retained and released players list on 15 November to the Board. Several players were released by the team which made fans shocked. Now, the mini-auction will take place in Kochi on 23 December.

Chennai is also one of those franchises that will look to do well in this upcoming season. MS Dhoni will look to win this trophy once again for Chennai fans. So, there are some discarded Indian players whom he can target in the upcoming auction. These players can be a vital option for the franchise.   

Here are the top four forgotten Indian players whom Chennai can target for the Indian T20 League 2023: 

Piyush Chawla

This veteran spinner can be a vital option for the Chennai franchise for the next edition of the Indian T20 League. Till now, Piyush Chawla has played 164 matches in this league where he picked up 156 wickets. He played a vital role for the Punjab and Kolkata franchises in the past editions of the tournament. 

He also represented the Chennai franchise in 2020. In that season, he picked up six wickets in seven matches, at an economy of 9.09. After that, he played for the Mumbai franchise in 2021 while in 2022, he did not play in the league. So, based on his bowling and big-hitting abilities at crucial stages, Chennai can target him for the upcoming season.

Karun Nair

This Indian batter can be another player whom the Chennai franchise can target for the next edition of the Indian T20 League. Until now, Karun Nair has played 76 matches where he has scored 1496 runs, at an average of 23.75. Recently, he played for the Kolkata and Rajasthan franchises but failed to score significant runs.

In the 2022 season, he scored only 16 runs in three matches, at an average of 8. So, Rajasthan released him ahead of the next season. However, he can be a good replacement for Robin Uthappa in Chennai if they look to add him to the squad. Karun Nair can be a good option to have for MS Dhoni in the middle order.

This veteran leg-spinner can be another option for the Chennai franchise in the next Indian T20 League edition. As of now, Amit Mishra has played 154 matches where he has picked up 166 wickets. However, he last played in this tournament in 2021 when he got six wickets in four matches, at an economy of 7.78.

In the last season, no teams showed any interest in this spinner. But, this time Chennai will play home matches in Cheapuak. So, that pitch might help this spinner and MS Dhoni can use him fully. So, the Chennai franchise might keep an eye on this spinner ahead of the next season in the upcoming auction.    

Jaydev Unadkat

This bowler can be a vital option for the Chennai franchise in the Indian T20 League 2023. Jaydev Unadkat has played 91 matches so far in this tournament. In those matches, he has taken 91 wickets at an average of 30.53. However, in the last season, he played for the Mumbai franchise.

In 2022, Unadkat took six wickets in five matches, at an economy of 9.50. Now, ahead of the new season, Mumbai released him. So, Chennai can look at him as an option for the next season as his cutters can be a vital option in Cheapuak. Jaydev Unadkat had his best season in 2017 when he claimed 24 wickets from 12 matches.
