Table-toppers, Gujarat continued its dominance in the Indian T20 League 2022 as they beat Chennai by 7 wickets on Sunday at Wankhede Stadium. Chasing a low score of 133 runs, Wriddhiman Saha gave the team a sensational start. Saha played in aggressive manner, while Gill was happy to play as the second fiddle. Saha made good use of the field restrictions and helped the team reach 53 runs at the end of the power play.

Debutant, Matheesha Pathirana got the first breakthrough in the form of Shubman Gill (18 off 7) in the 7th over.  Coming in at number three, Mathew Wade was looking solid in the middle. He struck 2 fours during his 15-ball 20-run knock but failed to convert the start into a big score. Wade got out in the 12th over but Saha kept scoring boundaries at the other end. Gujarat had managed 90 runs in 11 overs during the chase.

The Sri Lanka young pacer also accounted for the wicket of Hardik Pandya (7 off 6) in the 14th over. However, Gujarat already had great grasp in the game by then. Saha played right till the end and in the end, guided the team home in 19.1 overs. He played an unbeaten knock of 64 runs in 54 balls, helping the team win the match by 7 wickets.

Earlier, Gujarat bowlers didn't let Chennai get going in the first innings. Mohammed Shami and Hardik Pandya bowled beautifully in the power play as they denied Chennai openers of getting an aggressive start. MS Dhoni and Co. were dealt with an early blow as Shami had Devon Conway caught-behind in only the third over of the innings.

Moeen Ali and Ruturaj Gaikwad rebuilt the innings but never looked in complete control of the game. Bowlers bowled at right areas and didn’t give too many bad deliveries. Moeen Ali scored two sixes during his 17-ball 21-run knock, however, just when it looked like he would change gears he found a man at deep midwicket off Sai Krishna. At the end of the first half of the innings, Chennai had only managed to score 73 runs.

N Jagadeesan came at four but never looked to play aggressively. The likes of Sai Kishore and Mohammed Shami didn’t give too many bad deliveries and, Chennai could only to manage to score 36 runs in the next five overs.

They tried to up the ante in the final five overs but, instead lost wickets at short intervals. Ruturaj Gaikwad (53 off 49) got out off Rashid Khan in the 16th over just after reaching his half-century. Two balls later, Shivam Dube departed, thanks to a brilliant bouncer bowled by Joseph.
