Chennai, on the other hand, haven’t had a great season this year. They are languishing at second from the bottom of the table, having managed to secure two wins out of eight matches. They would be keen to get back to winning ways as a loss will end their chances of making it to the playoffs.

After registering five consecutive wins, Hyderabad lost their last match against Gujarat by five wickets. Riding on crucial knocks from Abhishek Sharma and Aiden Markram, they managed to secure a mammoth score of 195 runs on the board.

However, their bowlers had an ordinary night and couldn’t defend the total down. Ahead of the next game against Chennai, they would be looking to return to winning ways.

  1. Abhishek Sharma

Opening the batting for Hyderabad, Abhishek Sharma has now played two valuable knocks at the top of the order. He played an outstanding 42-ball 65 in the last game against Gujarat. The southpaw would be brimming with confidence and would be keen to play another solid knock on Sunday.

  1. Aiden Markram

The South African cricketer has been in top form. He has scored runs consistently and played a vital role in turning Hyderabad’s fortune this season. He is coming into the game on the back of a stellar 40-ball 56 against Gujarat.

  1. Umran Malik

The young Indian pacer has received plaudits from across the globe due to his fast bowling exploits. He is consistently bowling at over 150 clicks and giving anxiety to the batters. Malik returned with impressive figures of 5 for 25 in 4 overs in the last game.

Probable Playing XI:

Abhishek Sharma, Kane Williamson (c), Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Shashank Singh, Washington Sundar, Marco Jansen, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umran Malik, T Natarajan

Chennai:

Chennai haven’t put in the performances this season that they are known for. The Men in Yellow have shown below-par performances with both bat and ball and have faced repercussions for that as well. For them to win the next game, Chennai has to get a solid start at the top of the order.

Ruturaj Gaikwad hasn’t been in the best of forms, while the promotion of Mitchell Santner at number three hasn’t worked either. It will be interesting to see if the franchise brings Moeen Ali back into the playing XI.

Players to watch out for:

  1. Ruturaj Gaikwad

Gaikwad got a decent start in the last game. He made 30 runs in 27 balls but couldn’t convert that into a big score. He is looking in decent touch and would be keen to play a big knock on Sunday.

  1. Ambati Rayudu

Ambati Rayudu has shown great form lately. He played an outstanding knock of 78 runs in 39 balls in the last game, a knock which was studded with seven fours and six sixes. He will be key to the team’s fortune in the next game.

  1. Dwayne Bravo

Bravo has consistently picked wickets for the team and has been their savior in the middle and death overs. He is currently Chennai’s highest wicket-taker. In 8 matches, Bravo has managed to pick 14 wickets at an average of 18.50.

Probable Playing XI:

Ruturaj Gaikwad, Robin Uthappa, Ambati Rayudu, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja (c), MS Dhoni (wk), Mitchell Santner, Dwayne Bravo, Dwaine Pretorius, Mukesh Choudhary, Maheesh Theekshana

Pitch Report:

The 46th match between Hyderabad and Chennai is scheduled to be played at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Sunday. The pitch is a bit on the slower side and the ball isn't coming nicely on to the bat. The batters do face difficulty in facing spinners. Anything between 160-180 would be a par score here.
