Chennai will take on Hyderbad in the 17th match of the Indian T20 League 2022 on Saturday at Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. Both teams haven’t had a great start to their respective campaigns. Chennai have played three games this season and are yet to open their account. On the other hand, Hyderabad are languishing at the bottom of the table with two losses in two matches.

Team News:

Chennai:

There is no denying that Chennai’s strength lies in their batting. However, the Yellow Army were folded for just 126 runs in their last game against Punjab. Earlier, in the match, they conceded 180 runs in the first innings. Surely, they need to improve on all aspects of the game if they are to make a turnaround in the competition. It will be interesting to see what changes they make in their playing XI.

Players to watch out for:

  1. Ruturaj Gaikwad
Advertisment

So far in the tournament, Gaikwad has failed to deliver with the bat. However, that’s how he started the previous year as well. He couldn’t do anything significant with the bat in the first three innings but went to score the most runs in the season. The upcoming match against Hyderabad could see a turnaround in Gaikwad’s fortunes. It will be interesting how he starts his innings on Saturday.

  1. Shivam Dube

Shivam Dube is the man in form. He is coming into the game on the back of two impressive knocks in the last two matches. The southpaw scored a valiant 30-ball 57 in the last match against Punjab. The fans would be wanting him to replicate a similar performance on Saturday.

  1. Moeen Ali

Moeen Ali, unfortunately, got out without even opening his account in the last game. He was one of the biggest reasons behind Chennai’s success last year. He is tasked to up the ante in the first half of the innings. He holds key to Chennai’s fortunes this season as well. For Chennai to go deep into the tournament, Moeen Ali needs to deliver consistent performances with both bat and ball.

Probable Playing XI:

Ruturaj Gaikwad, Robin Uthappa, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, Ravindra Jadeja (captain), Shivam Dube, MS Dhoni (wicketkeeper), Dwayne Bravo, Dwaine Pretorius, Chris Jordan, Mukesh Choudhary

Hyderabad:

Much like Chennai, Hyderabad too are yet to open their account. Their performances have been dismal so far. They did well to restrict Lucknow to 169 in the last game. However, Hyderabad failed to chase down the score, falling 12 runs short of the target. Heading into their next game against Chennai, they would be looking to get back to winning ways.

Players to watch out for:

  1. Kane Williamson

Kane Williamson has opened the innings in both the games but couldn’t make a significant contribution. Despite that, he is likely to open the innings, once again, on Saturday. However, the important thing is that he must score runs. He is one of the most important batsmen in the team and his performances are vital to the team’s fortune this season.

  1. T Natarajan

T Natarajan has recovered fully from his injury and is bowling pretty well at the momentum. His ability to bowl pinpoint Yorkers at the death deserves all the applause. He did extremely well in the last game, returning with figures of 2 for 26 in 4 overs. It will be interesting to see if he could deliver a similar spell on Saturday.

  1. Nicholas Pooran

Nicholas Pooran is the man in form. He has been dishing out consistent performances for West Indies. Though, he got out early in Hyderabad’s first game. Pooran looked solid in the last game but got out just when he was about to explode. He made 34 runs in 24 balls in the last game. He will be a man to watch for on Saturday.

Probable Playing XIs:

Rahul Tripathi, Kane Williamson (captain), Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran, Abhishek Sharma, Abdul Samad, Romario Shepherd, Washington Sundar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan, Umran Malik/Kartik Tyagi

Pitch Report

The 17th match of the Indian T20 League 2022 is scheduled to be played between Chennai and Hyderabad. The 15 match between Delhi and Lucknow was also played on this surface. Spinners got a lot more bounce and turn from the surface and were difficult to play. The likes Bishnoi, Gowtham, Kuldeep and Axar all bowled well. Once again, you would expect spinners to play a big role in the game. Batsmen who play spin well could score big runs on this surface.
