Day 4 began for New Zealand with Henry Nicholls being the team's only recognized batter at the crease. Skipper Virat Kohli though was not looking to hold back and started attacking with spinners right away. Jayant Yadav got the first breakthrough of Rachin Ravindra which opened the floodgates for the visitors. Indian spinners once again were on fire and picked up 9 wickets between them, with Jayant Yadav and Ravi Ashwin taking 4 each.

The star of the show was Ravi Ashwin, who started the New Zealand collapse in the fourth innings by removing the top-order batters. He ended up with eight wickets in the match and continued his good form this year. Meanwhile, India also recorded its largest victory in terms of numbers. The win has boosted India's position in the World Test Championship as well. They are now placed third in the points table, behind Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

The hosts had a lot of positives to take from this thumping display. For starters, Mayank Agarwal bounced back in style after a string of low scores. He scored 150 and 62 and carried India’s batting on his shoulders. He was not afraid to bide his time on a tricky Wankhede surface and played spin and pace with aplomb.

Meanwhile, for visitors, Ajaz Patel had a memorable outing as he became only the third bowler in the history of Test cricket to pick 10 wickets in an inning.
