Following the T20 series, India vs Sri Lanka series will now shift to the game's longest format. The first Test of the series will mark the 100th Test appearance for Virat Kohli. Virat Kohli will join this elite club which already has 12 Indian players. But, he also has an opportunity to join some of these players in another list of milestones.

Virat just needs 38 runs to reach the landmark of 8000 runs in Test cricket. If he is able to get there, he will become only the 6th Indian to do so. Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar, Virender Sehwag, and VVS Laxman are the previous players to do so. If Virat manages to get these runs in the first innings itself, he will become the 5th fastest Indian to get to 8000 Test runs, surpassing VVS Laxman.

The 33-year old has established a reputation that a half-century from his bat is never enough for the fans. They always want him to score a century, but that has not been the case since 2019. Virat Kohli has been stranded on his 70th century since the match against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens in Kolkata in 2019. In the last five matches at home, he has scored just 208 runs at an average of 26. He has gotten out on a duck thrice in eight innings.

The former Indian skipper will be hoping that he gets out of this drought in this series. The last time Sri Lanka toured India for a Test series was in 2017, Virat got 603 runs in those three matches. He was able to get consecutive double hundreds in Nagpur and Delhi.

Mohali will host the first Test match at the IS Bindra Stadium starting on the 4th of March.
