Shobhit Pandey, a cricket fan who was present on Day 1 of the first Test against New Zealand, became the butt of all jokes after a video of him chewing something, which many speculate as Guthka, went viral. The video turned Shobhit into a meme as it took social media by storm. Guthka, a tobacco betel nut, is a synonym to the people of Kanpur. Pandey, a resident of Maheshwari Mahol in Kanpur, was present on the second day of the Test match as well. However, what caught the attention of the onlookers and spectators in the stadium was that he came with a holding that read, “Eating tobacco is a bad habit”, in Hindi.

When asked about all the limelight he has been getting since the last two days, Shobhit said he is irritated by all the memes and attention he is getting. He also revealed he was not eating Guthka but was chewing a mouth freshener.

“First of all, I would like to clarify that I wasn’t eating tobacco. I was eating betel nut and was on call in with my friend, who was also watching the match in the same stadium but in a different stand. It was just a call of almost ten seconds and it went viral. My friend whom I was talking to was the one who broke the news to me that the video has gone viral. It went like a fire,” he said according to Hindustan Times.

Pandey further opined that he is not worried about the video that has gone viral but some people are passing nasty comments about his sister which is not good. “I didn’t do anything wrong, that is why I am not scared or embarrassed about this. I am just concerned that some people are passing nasty comments about my sister. And on the other hand, I am getting numerous calls from media houses and other people regarding the whole scenario and now I am getting irritated,” Shobhit added
