Although India won the first of the three-match Test series in Centurion, they went on to lose the second and third Test and thus, lost the series by 2-1. It is safe to say that this was their best chance of winning a Test series in the rainbow nation for the first time.

However, there were disappointing performances from various Indian players. While none of the pitches in the three Tests were conducive towards spin, Ravichandran Ashwin didn't really have one of the greatest outings this time around. In the six innings in which he bowled, he was able to pick just the three wickets.

Thus, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra recently expressed his disappointment over the offie's performance in the series. He pointed out Ashwin's inability to pick up wickets in the fourth innings. The cricketer-turned-commentator also felt that a lot more was expected from the veteran spinner.

"Ravichandran Ashwin, there were a lot of expectations from him. In my opinion, Ashwin not taking wickets, especially in the fourth innings, I think that's been a let-down for sure," said Aakash Chopra in a video shared on his YouTube channel. The former opener then said that the Tamil Nadu all-rounder wasn't consistent with the bat, and then went on to compare him with Ravindra Jadeja.

"Jadeja was not there, so he was certain to play. He will have to bat at No. 7, so there will be expectations of runs, he played one good knock as well, made 46 runs. But other than that, did he score runs every time - no, will he score runs every time - no. Then you will have to pick up wickets because that was the fight between Jadeja and Ashwin always.

If you have to decide based on batting, then play Jaddu. If you have to decide based on bowling, their performances have been at par," he added.

It is to be noted that Ashwin scored 86 runs in the series. However, 46 of those came in the first innings of the second Test in Johannesburg.
