The Delhi batter recently scored a 64-run knock against Bangladesh in the fourth match of India’s campaign in the eighth edition of the tournament. Meanwhile, former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir, who was on the receiving end of criticism from the fans for his critique remark for Virat Kohli has stunned the Indian cricketing fraternity with his latest remarks for the former Indian skipper.

During a recent conversation, Gautam Gambhir backed his former teammate when he was asked to make a comparison between current Pakistani skipper Babar Azam and Virat Kohli.

He has the role of aggressor in the last ten overs of the innings - Gautam Gambhir on Virat Kohli

“In this batting lineup, Kohli has the role of an aggressor in the final ten overs, alongside being an anchor in the starting,” Gambhir was quoted as saying about Kohli in a recent video.

“When you see Babar Azam, it is not necessary that you can call them (other players) an anchor. Virat Kohli is much more than just an anchor. When the conditions are tough in the first 10 overs of the match and India loses wickets like today, Kohli built a partnership by playing second fiddle to KL Rahul. When Rahul was dismissed, he partnered with Suryakumar Yadav and became the main hero after Suryakumar’s dismissal,” he added later.

Virat Kohli will be seen in action with the Indian team in the next match of India against Zimbabwe in their last match of the super-12 round of the ongoing edition of the 20-20 World Cup.

Speaking of the highest run-scorers in the tournament, Kohli is followed by none other than the Dutch opener Max O'Dowd who scored 213 runs in the seven innings of the tournament having two half-centuries to his name including the one came against Zimbabwe in a winning cause.
