Team India are currently busy playing the home T20I series against New Zealand. On 1 February 2023, the Men in Blue will play the series decider against the Kiwis. However, Prithvi Shaw got a chance in this series. But, in the first and second games, India did not consider him as one of the openers.

They went with Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill. Meanwhile, some reports have come out that he might replace Ishan Kishan in the last encounter. But, fans think that it might be difficult for him to get a chance. Regarding his selection for the series, Shaw said that his first call-up to the team was a proud moment for him.

"You have to persist with Prithvi Shaw and Ishan Kishan” - Gautam Gambhir

In a recent interview with the Indian Cricket team TV, Prithvi Shaw said: My first call-up to the team was a proud moment for me. Getting the Test cap was a different feel. I always wanted to play Test matches for India. The first call-up was really special. There were ups and downs. But you learn something every day. I just worked hard on it. I tried to be patient and cool as possible, focusing on getting the process and routines right. These are the small things that make you close to perfect. People say if the process is good, you can score in the next, even if you fail in a couple of matches."

Now, the former India cricketer, Gautam Gambhir backed him and claimed that Prithvi Shaw can be one of the openers for team India in the 202 20-20 World Cup. In a Star Sports show, he said: "Surprised again (that he has not got opportunities vs New Zealand). I feel you have got to give him an opportunity and you have to give him a longer rope, especially in the T20 format, because I see him opening the batting in 2024 if the selectors have started to look beyond Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma."

"You have to persist with Prithvi Shaw and Ishan Kishan, and those guys can actually go out there and play with the template that we have spoken about for such a long time. Yes, Shubman Gill has done really well in the 50-over format, but if there is one player in this squad for whom T20 comes very naturally, it's Prithvi Shaw and that's his game," Gambhir added.
