Friendship Cup: Pakistan Legends defeat World Legends XI to lift the trophy

Pakistan Legends XI win the inaugural UAE Friendship CUP

The Pakistan Legends team got their revenge on their rivals India Legends on March of 7th, for their group defeat. The team then went to defeat the still undefeated World Legends XI in the final to lift the UAE Friendship Cup 2022.

The Pakistan team defeated the Indian Legends in a close encounter which went to the last over in the virtual semifinal. The Pakistan Legends thus qualified for the final where they were to face the World Legends XI team.

The Pakistani captain Imran Nazir won the toss in the finals and decide to bat first. The team put up a total of 133 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. The batting effort was graced by an attacking display of batting by the veteran left-handed opening batsman Salman Butt. He scored 45 runs of just 20 deliveries.

The surprise factor in the Pakistan Legend’s batting effort was in the lower order. Mohammad Sami who was known for his abilities with the ball in hand during his playing days surprised everybody, scoring 36 runs in just 10 deliveries. His innings contained 5 sixes and 1 four.

Graeme Cremer bowled an excellent spell, picking up 3 wickets in his two overs conceding just six runs.

The World Legends XI’s batting effort was started with a steady knock by opener Thilakaratne Dilshan (34 of 16 deliveries). Dilshan’s effort was followed by a half-century by Phil Mustard (50 of 21 deliveries). However, the efforts went in vain as the World Legends XI fell short of the target by 15 runs. The World Legends were restricted to 119 runs in their 10 overs.

Naveed-ul- Hasan and Mohammad Irfan bowled really well and led the Pakistani team to victory. With the win over the undefeated World Legends XI, the Pakistan legends lifted the inaugural UAE Friendship Cup.
