India had the first match of 2011 World Cup against Bangladesh who had beaten them in the 2007 edition. The ‘Men-in-blue’ avenged their humiliating loss by thumping the Bangla Tigers by 87 runs.

The same way India began their 2022 World Cup campaign with a game against the arch-rivals Pakistan who had crushed them with a 10-wicket victory in the previous edition of the tournament. India managed to beat Pakistan courtesy of Virat Kohli who played the best innings of his T20I career.

 2. Fast bowler being ruled out just before the tournament

The only setback that India faced in the 2011 World Cup was against South Africa in the group stage. Similarly, the ‘Men-in-Blue’ ended up losing their fixture against the Proteas in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup as well.

The other startling similarity between the two results is that South Africa chased down the target on both occasions with two balls to spare in their innings.

4. India, Netherlands, South Africa and Bangladesh in one group
