‘Forget 360, can they even play 180 degree?’ - Wasim Akram questions Pakistan’s batting standards

Legendary former Pakistan bowler Wasim Akram questioned the quality of Pakistan batters and their ability to play shots around the ground. He reckons that the batters are not capable of playing the “360 degrees” shots and asks them to stick to “180 degrees”, and expressed his dissatisfaction to the side’s batting coach, Mohammad Yousuf.

Pakistan are currently facing England in a seven-match T20I series at home, and the series is level on 3-3. The Men in Green faced a comprehensive defeat in the sixth game as England chased down 170 in only 14.3 overs and with eight wickets in hand. And it seems, Akram is not impressed with the home team’s batting standards, as it stands.

“Forget 360, can they even play 180 degree?” questioned Akram who was on air on TV. “Look at Ben Duckett, he does not let the bowlers settle, especially the spinners. He plays shots in all directions of the ground. If I play against Pakistan, then I know where they will play their shots, they are not versatile, and no one even tries.”

Why don't they apply it in the match?: Akram

“360 degrees is too much to ask, at least they should try to play 180. If this is how they practice, why don't they apply it in the match?” expressed Akram. Yousuf replied to the former Pakistan pacer that he, along with head coach Saqlain Mushtaq, was making a conscious with the team.

"I’m making a conscious effort. I talk to Saqlain bhai about this. When they (Pakistan batters) play spinners, I stand behind and suggest to our batsmen a number of different shots, ‘play this shot at this ball, this at this’" explained Yousuf. The decider of the ongoing series against the Three Lions will be held in Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on October 2, Sunday.

Next in store for Babar Azam’s side is a tri-series along with New Zealand and Bangladesh in New Zealand, which will be held between October 7 and October 14 with all the matches to be held in Christchurch.
